One of the most common questions we receive is: “How do I start the process of obtaining an anchoring service dog?” Reaching out to us through this contact form is an important first step. We know you’ll have tons of questions… you should! This is a big decision, and it will impact everyone in your family for many years to come.
The next big step is to reach out to us by phone at (503) 319-1613. There is no substitute for talking to someone firsthand. We WANT to hear from you – every family’s situation is vastly different. There’s a saying – ‘When you’ve met one child with autism, you’ve met one child with autism.’ It’s called Autism Spectrum Disorder for a reason! Calling us will give us a chance to learn about your child’s particular needs, and will give you a chance to get to know us. Some of our best service dog placements have come about with families that flew out to visit us and observe a demonstration of what our dogs provide in-person. We know not everyone can do that, but beginning a dialog is important to this process.
Finally, we process applications on a first-come, first-served basis. We will ask you for additional material over the phone and through email, but getting an application to us holds your spot and lets us know you’re serious about proceeding. We always have several dogs going through the training program at any time and will start looking at each dog for their suitability with your family. Our goal is to find the best possible match, for your needs and for the service dog’s needs. Ultimately, we want each placement to be permanent as a strong bond develops between our gentle giants and their family.
