Thank you for your donation which helps us provide an autism anchoring service dog to a family and child living with autism!

Kirsten on local news KOIN getting the message out.

Our dogs play an active role in helping to keep a child on the autism spectrum safe from wandering, and provide a calming influence for the family as they go about their daily lives. Over the years, we have placed our gentle giants all over the USA and Canada and take pride in providing our anchoring dogs to families with children who elope.

Many of the families we have worked with are in need of financial support. Sam’s Legacy Fund, the charitable arm of Autism Anchoring Dogs, was founded to help offset these costs. In addition to the costs associated with the service dog itself, these funds have been applied to transportation costs, equipment replacement expenses, renewal training costs, veterinary care, and other collateral expenses.

We greatly appreciate any and all donations and apply them directly to the fund to help families in need. As the demand for autism service dogs has steadily increased, we are in need of help in order to continue serving the families accepted into our program. We mean it when we say that Every Single Donation Helps! Thank you!

“Noble dogs, noble job…”

By donating you help us offset some of these costs:

Like most non-profits, much of our funding comes from the generosity of people willing to donate to a cause they believe in. Money donated to Autism Anchoring Dogs goes to subsidizing our costs, which are many. We carefully select the dogs used in our program based on a variety of factors, chief among them temperament and sound structure. Not every dog admitted to the program will become a service dog, but our costs remain fixed. We obtain our dogs from reputable breeders, putting a great deal of care into researching each pedigree for health and longevity. After the initial cost to procure the puppy, there are additional costs associated with transportation, food, healthcare, training, equipment, facilities, etc. These are all factored into the final cost of each service dog that completes the program and is eligible for placement with a family.

By donating, you help us to offset some of these costs. Below is a partial list of where your contribution goes:

  • $10 buys a dog chew toy or a dog grooming rake
  • $20 buys a “Furminator” (a long hair de-shedding tool for dogs)
  • $75 feeds one giant breed dog for a month
  • $100 buys a dog anchoring vest, leash, and collar (provided with each dog placed)
  • $350 covers the cost of health insurance for each dog’s annual baseline medical expenses
  • $450 covers the cost of one spay or one neuter
  • $500 covers transportation costs for dogs purchased from out-of-state
  • $900 feeds one giant breed dog for a year
  • $3,000 – $3,500 covers the cost of one giant breed puppy purchased from a reputable breeder
  • $35,000 covers the cost of one fully trained autism anchoring dog placed with a family
